Welcome
About Of Cathy’s Cottage
Welcome to my website! Before you read on, let me introduce myself. My name is Angela van Hoogstraten and I live in Vierlingsbeek, in the south of the Netherlands. My dogs are my hobby, and I work with them every day: around the house, or out walking, swimming or cycling. In the evenings they all lie snugly indoors – so no kennel dogs here! I train them to be well-behaved, sociable house dogs and give them show training. I also take my dogs to shows. They are all examined for patellar luxation at specialist clinics and have had a full eye examination (including PRA and cataract).

My passion
My great passion is improving the breed! When I breed a litter, I try to make the best possible combination, weighing up a great many factors. Beauty matters, but health and a pleasant temperament matter most. I pay close attention to conformation and movement: a well-built dog is a joy to look at, and moves well as a result. In the 25 years I have been breeding, I have learned a lot from watching horses, their build and their movement. I breed according to the guidelines of the Dutch breed club, the NVJRT, of which I am of course a member. Some important points from its breeding rules:
- The bitch must be microchipped and registered with the Dutch Kennel Club.
- She must be screened for patellar luxation and eye conditions.
- She must have achieved at least the grading ‘very good’ at two shows.
- A bitch must be at least 16 months old when she is mated.
- She may have no more than one litter per calendar year and no more than five litters in her lifetime.
Official Jack Russell Terrier breeder
My kennel is recognised by the Dutch Kennel Club, the Raad van Beheer op Kynologisch Gebied, and is registered under no. 37393. I achieved this by obtaining the professional diplomas in canine knowledge, KKI and KKII, a course that qualifies you as a state-recognised breeder. The puppies are born in the house, and before they leave for their new owners at eight weeks old, they are socialised as well as possible and the first step towards house training has been taken. I get them used to all kinds of everyday things and introduce them to other dogs of various breeds. I take them in the car, to town, to the woods and to the water. Of course you will receive from me an official purchase contract, the pedigree, a DNA profile and a European pet passport. The puppies are also microchipped and registered with the Dutch Kennel Club, checked by a vet, vaccinated and dewormed. I hope you enjoy our site. If you have any questions about the dogs, or about the Jack Russell in general, feel free to call me or, by appointment, to come and visit.
